Abstract:
This study introduces tools to assess the internal quality characteristics of eggs through the analysis of color digital images, comparing classical methods with a video camera-based software product. Strong statistical relationships were found for key quality characteristics of hen and quail eggs. Video camera measurement software is an effective egg evaluation alternative applicable to production, quality control and research. Sufficiently fast and accurate means for the evaluation of key quality characteristics of eggs are proposed, which are suitable for automation in the poultry and food sector. Future directions include adapting of the software for other bird species, improving its capabilities, integrating of automation, providing user-friendliness and data security, and evaluating the cost-effectiveness of using this type of software product.
