Abstract:
The thermoplastic polymers modified by elastomers show improved impact resistance but deteriorated static mechanical characteristics. The aim of the present work Is to better the general mechanical properties of polycaproamide by involving small amounts of elastomer immobilized on dispersed filler.Poly(butadiene-co-styrene) latex particles were grafted by means of current impulses onto micronized bentonite to obtain the modifier. The optimum quantity of this modifier is 1-2 wt.% by which the tensile and bending strengths and Young's modulus are enhanced to 12, 14 and 34 % respectively. The observed better mechanical properties are due to the improved morphology of the phase transition layers.
