Abstract:
A phrasal-structural language is proposed for description of geographic objects. The point and arc features, which are utilized in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), form a terminal dictionary of the grammar used for the description. The elements of a non-terminal dictionary determine the topology and structure of the objects. A polygon is the other fundamental feature utilized in GIS and it is derived as a description - a sentence. Certain automation technology is suggested for creation of the structural-linguistic descriptions and their integration into the database of GIS.
