Title:
Musala Condominium
Abstract:
The 1920s saw a construction boom of condominiums - apartment residential buildings funded through cooperation of small owners. The next two decades those buildings defined the city's image and reshaped Sofia city centre - the two or three storey individual houses give way to 6-7 storey volumes. Musala Condominium is one of the earliest examples and certainly the most monumental one. Its design bears features of late Secession bordering on Art Deco. The next several years, with the rapid introduction of Modernism ideas, condominium architecture became more rational and this building remained an isolated example of Art Deco stylistics and monumental ornamentation in an apartment residential building in Sofia.
